In Windows 11, Windows Subsystem for Android is a platform that lets you run Android apps on your computer alongside Windows apps. Officially, you can only install apps from the Amazon Appstore, but it is possible to download Android apps using the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) tools.

The platform is currently available in preview for devices enrolled in the Windows Insider Program beta channel with the latest version of Windows 11 and Microsoft Store. Additionally, support is currently limited to the US and you need a US-based account to access the Amazon Appstore.

In this Window 11 guide, we’ll walk you through what you need to know to start getting and using Android apps in Windows 11.

Install Microsoft Store manually

  1. Run the virtual machine and from it download and open the StoreX86.zip file. Open the .reg file in Windows.
  2. When prompted to add information to the registry, click Yes.
  3. Run the VM and open PowerShell.
  4. Run the following command:

    wsreset.exe -i

  5. Once the installation is complete, the store should be available via search.
  6. Since the first version will come with an update, it may take a few minutes.

Fix Microsoft Store closing on startup

If Microsoft Store is already installed in Windows 11 on a Mac with Apple M1 chip, but it closes immediately after opening, follow these steps:

  1. Run the VM and open PowerShell.
  2. Run the following command:

    Get-AppxPackage -Name “Microsoft.WindowsStore” -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage
